In developing the Jinga strategy that will underpin a healthy, positive business as it grows, we started with the question of our footprint. What do we want our footprint, the effects of what we do, the impression we make on the world around our business and the people inside and outside the business, to be?
  • On the environment, we want our footprint to be as light as possible, with the aim to eventually leave no footprint at all.
  • With regards to people in Brazil, we want the footprint we leave to be a marked improvement in opportunities, support and fairness, addressing the inequalities in Brazilian society and creating and rewarding, sustainable long-term employment.
  • We want our footprint on the world at large to be colourful and captivating, celebrating and spreading the vibrancy and the quality of life of Brazilian culture; all in all, our business will be driven by the desire to leave a Powerfully Positive Footprint.
Achieving this means considering our footprint in every business decision: but it also means defining our footprint in real, practical terms. The practical aims we believe will enable us to leave a Positive Footprint are outlined below, in four key parts:
  1. Addressing inequality by ensuring business profits benefit the most vulnerable in society: We have made a non-negotiable commitment to directing 25% of our net profits to projects working vulnerable people living in poverty in Brazil, in particular young people and children.
  2. Ensuring the Protection of Workers rights throughout our supply chain and creating rewarding jobs: Ensuring that all workers within our supply chain in Brazil are fully employed under Brazilian employment law, thus eligible for the full legal protection and benefits that this stipulates, and ensuring working conditions are as specified in the Jinga Code of Good Practice.
  3. Working towards Minimal Environmental Impact through all our business outputs: In our goal to work towards Minimal Environmental Impact, we are proud to announce that we are working in partnership with the Project Amanha Mais Feliz. All Jinga Shoes carry the Amanha Mais Feliz stamp, a symbol indicating participation in the Amanha Mais Feliz environmental project and marking significant environmental good practice in manufacturing. The Amanha Mais Feliz project was formed in 1996 as a co-operatively run project by a collective of factories in one of Brazils most traditional shoe making areas. The aim was to make production in their area a truly sustainable enterprise, which they defined as ecologically correct, economically viable, socially just and culturally integrated. Watch the video below to see more about the Amanha Mais Feliz Project.
